A Day in Seattle and the Velvet Report Brunch

 General Porpoise

General Porpoise

So you may or may not know, I recently moved a bit farther outside of the city of Seattle, and because of my busy schedule, I just don't make it into the city as often as I used to. Thanks to the lovely Lindsey of Velvet Report hosting a blogger brunch and product launch, I had the perfect opportunity to head into the city and check out a couple of new spots!

The first place I hit on my whirlwind tour was General Porpoise - a seriously adorable doughnut spot and coffee shop. I recommend getting there early if you want to sit and enjoy your breakfast on a weekend. The doughnuts are handmade and filled with different flavored custards, creams, and jams. I got a Chocolate Marshmallow doughnut which was absolutely delicious, but I was dying to try the other flavors. And if that wasn't enough to draw you in, the interior is serious Instagram-bait with a crisp clean atmosphere and pops of bright pink.

After breakfast, I headed to Pike Place Market to do some solo exploring. This is one of the few places I love exploring both with and without other people. It was super crowded even though it was fairly early on a Saturday morning, but I love the hustle and bustle and the ability to talk to everyone from the people selling vegetables to those selling handmade crafts. I always pick up flowers when I come down here. There is always a beautiful selection for much cheaper than what you'd find at a traditional florist. My bouquet of gorgeous dahlias was only $10.

To do a bit more exploring before brunch, I headed back to the Capitol Hill neighborhood. I may be a bit biased, because I spent a lot of time in the area when one of my friends temporarily lived nearby, but this is my favorite Seattle neighborhood. There are a ton of cool shops and coffee shops like the Starbucks Reserve roastery (so cool!) and the rainbow crosswalks are such a unique and lovely feature. It's a great neighborhood to wander around in if you've got time to kill.

Alright, moving on to the main event! I was invited to attend the Velvet Report Vegan Brunch and Product Launch. If you're unfamiliar with the company, Lindsey started Velvet Report to share her love of vegan and cruelty-free beauty and fashion. She sells amazing boxes with curated vegan, cruelty-free, and non-toxic beauty products and just launched her own Micellar Water this weekend! I'll be doing a post on the Rose Vegan Beauty Set later this week, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

The brunch was held at Bar Melusine, which happens to be the creation of the same chef as General Porpoise. The bar has a nautical theme and is filled with crisp white and beautiful turquoise decor, and has one of the cutest tiled floors I've ever seen. The food was absolutely incredible - we ate from a custom vegan menu - but even better was getting to meet some local bloggers and get a sense of what the Seattle blogging community is like. Almost everyone else knew each other already, but they made me feel so welcome and were so kind and friendly.

Lindsey's decor, with printed Polaroids of each of us no less!, set the stage for a truly lovely afternoon and one I was so grateful to be a part of. It is always nice to meet people who are dealing with similar situations (blogging in this case) and can commiserate and share experiences and triumphs. It was even nicer to do it while supporting a company that is really dedicated to clean, vegan, and cruelty-free beauty and who supports local brands. All around a wonderful, wonderful day!
