Winter Beauty Essentials

Ah winter, that time of year a lot of us freeze our butts off and try not to complain too much about it. This is a season that, no matter how great your beauty routine is the rest of the year, can wreak havoc on your body head to toe. Dry skin, dry hair, brittle nails, the works. So today, rather than write this as a typical favorites post, I decided to literally go head to toe and explain every single thing that is saving my personal freezing butt this winter. Let’s go:

Hair

My hair was already a bit dry and damaged from getting highlights before the winter even started. The cold weather and dry air has really only made it worse. I discovered the Acure Organics Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner while I was traveling over the holidays and it was seriously a saving grace. They kept my hair silky and hydrated. Plus, of course, I always love the Kevin Murphy Repair Me Rinse. It’s the only hair product that’s stayed a part of my routine for more than a year and that’s for a reason! You don’t have to leave it in your hair long, and once it’s washed out, your hair looks brand new. It’s the best.

Face

My face is naturally on the oilier side, so in the winter I make sure to keep it super hydrated. That might not sound like it makes sense, but the drier my skin gets, the more oil it produces to compensate, which inevitably equals breakouts. So this winter I’ve been relying on three Dr. Roebuck’s products for hydration. The first is Cleanse, their nourishing and hydrating cleanser. The last thing you want in the middle of winter is a cleanser that’s going to strip your skin and dry it out. I love how hydrating and gentle this cleanser is. The second product is the Ultimate Hydrating Serum - which is maybe my all time favorite serum. It’s got a thick, gel-like texture and it does exactly what it claims to. The third is the Face Moisturizer, which is hydrating and luxurious, but super light on the skin. Nothing bothers me more than heavy products on my face and I love that this does all of the work without any of the heaviness. Don't forget you can use BRIANAW15 on the Dr. Roebuck's website for 15% off!

Shoulders, Knees, and Toes

I am super bad about moisturizing the rest of my body, but I do have two little tricks I use all of the time in the winter. Before I go to bed every night, I make sure to moisturize my hands, feet, ankles, knees, and elbows - all of the parts that get particularly dry. If I’m not crazy dry, I’ll use the Herbivore Jasmine Body Oil, and if I need a little more oomph I’ll use the Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve. They both work well and have perfect smells for bedtime, which sounds weird but I am such a smell person, so it feels important. Besides that, once a week or so I’ll take a bath with coconut oil in it to hydrate the remainder of my neglected body. I've also been testing out the Fur Oil everywhere that I shave and oh boy has it made such a difference. My skin usually gets so damn irritated after shaving, but no more!

The Extras

Oka,y lip balm probably could have been included in the face section, but I consider lip balm multi-purpose, so here it is. My go to is Glossier Balm Dotcom. I slather it on my lips every night before bed and every morning when I wake up and I literally have not had dry, cracking lips once this winter. It’s also great for your cuticles or any random annoying dry spot you notice while on the go. And last but not least, I am obsessed with my essential oil diffuser. It’s essentially a miniature humidifier that you can make smell good and is easier to refill. You can diffuse plain water if you want, but I’ve been adding Four Thieves Oil to mine to kill/ward off sickness. I credit this baby with me not waking up with a dry and croaky throat, and helping me avoid the overall crustiness that comes with dry winter air.

That’s all! May you all be hydrated head to toe all winter long!
